Early hog hunting and frontier life in Comanche County
The account by F. M. Cross describes one of Comanche County’s first industries hog raising. He details how settlers in 1855 to 1858 spread hogs, fattened them on acorns, and harvested about 1000 pounds of pork daily during a multiweek hunt near the North Leon River. He recounts partners, methods, and a dangerous Indian attack that claimed Mr. Foreman, with local volunteers seeking the killer.
