TP&L Seeks 34 Percent Rate Hike In Texas

Texas Power and Light requests a city and state rate adjustment aimed at increasing revenues by about 135 million dollars for the test year ending September 30 1976 with an average 34 percent rise across rates. Residential and school rates would climb around 38.8 and 40.2 percent respectively while commercial and industrial rates rise about 25.9 and 24.9 percent. TP&L cites rising costs and a shift to lignite and nuclear plants to meet future energy needs and maintain its AAA bond rating. Wayne Pinkerton plans to appear before the City Council to discuss the proposal.
