County Farmers Get 107 340 Dollars in Federal Checks

Comanche County farmers received a total of 167 548 13 dollars in Federal checks during 1939 under AAA as the 1938 program. Conservation checks led with 118 156 95 dollars covering general crops, peanuts, oats, and parts of wheat and cotton. Cotton parity 35 038 87 dollars ranked second. range conservation 8 891 80 dollars. wheat parity 5 260 51 dollars. About 2 800 farmers received the checks. 1940 cotton allotments released, general allotments coming soon.

Jersey Breeders Schedule Calf Report Meeting

E C Seay president of the Comanche County Jersey Breeders Association asks members to report heifer calves from registered Jersey bulls. A meeting of the committee and breeders is set for Saturday at 2 30 PM in the Higginbothams Furniture Department to review the calf counts and call for full attendance.

R Eanes invites county residents to help organize The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis in Comanche County. The drive supports research and fight against the disease as cases rise nationwide with 1705 in 1938 and 7130 reported in the first 39 weeks of 1939.

Oil wells open in Sipe Springs field boost Comanche outlook

Two wells Moorman and Lusk in the Sipe Springs field are flowing with strong oil at depths near 2700 feet expanding the field to seven and a half miles. The Moorman well hits oil at 2770 feet and streams fifty feet over the derrick as hopes rise for 1920. Mary Pickford stars in The Hearts O the Hills at Majestic Theatre Monday and Tuesday. FSA Tour Showcases Progress With Farm Clients

The Farm Security Administration in Comanche County hosted Congressman Clyde L. Garrett state director W R Smitham and state office staff along with farmers and Lions Club members. An 9:30 to 1 exhibit featured home crafts a two room display and a foods table. A 1:00 tour visited Carl Cunningham and Alvah J Willingham with farm plans record books poultry livestock and storage programs highlighted. The congressman spoke on the new farm program and discussed FSA details with Robt Fisher.

Former Local School Head Passes Away

R F Holloway former superintendent of Comanche Public Schools from 1911 to 1919 died in Fort Worth on December 19 at age 72. He was buried December 21 in West End Cemetery after a funeral at First Christian Church Stephenville. Holloway builder of state wide attention for Comanche schools and a beloved educator, born February 24 1867 in Pritchett Upshur County Texas.

Mrs Webb Wilson Buried Saturday

Mrs Webb Wilson aged 86 died early Saturday December 23 at her Comanche home. Funeral services were held at the family residence Saturday at 2:30 PM with Rev A Edwin Wilson of the Comanche Baptist Church in charge. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery. She was a long time Comanche resident and Primitive Baptist Church member. She is survived by her husband Webb Wilson.

Garrett, Pioneer Citizen, Dies at Doole

Former early settler of Comanche County T Garrett died at his Doole Texas home Saturday December 16 aged 74. He lived in the county fifty years before moving to Doole twenty years ago according to his brother L W Garrett Sidney Route 1.
