A national study via the Standard Rate and Data Service shows Comanche County families moving up income brackets. In the past year 18.5 percent earned 10 000 to 15 000 and 24.8 percent above that, with 53.9 percent having 8 000 or more after taxes though inflation left many no better off.
Santa Claus asks the Comanche Chief to publish Letters to Santa from Comanche area children this week. Children should submit letters to The Chief by Friday noon for publication and forwarding to the North Pole.
Comanche merchants joined the Chamber of Commerce for Shopper's Night with stores staying open until 8 pm and a courthouse lawn drawing. Several thousand shoppers enjoyed the chili supper, registration in twenty stores, and prizes including jewelry watches gift certificates and household items.
The Comanche Chief invites entries for its first Christmas essay contest under the theme What Christmas Means To Me. Prizes of 10 dollars for first and 5 dollars for second will be awarded and winning essays printed in the Christmas edition. Open to entrants eighteen years and under. essays should be about 200 words and submitted by 5 p.m. Friday December 17.
De Leon and Barbers Hill, top contenders, clash for the Class A state football championship at 8 p.m. in Waco Midway stadium after dramatic semifinal upsets. De Leon beat Seagraves 21 12 as underdogs, Barbers Hill edged Mart 3 0 at Bryan.
Comanche County hosts an income tax clinic for farmers and ranchers at the Farm Bureau Meeting Room on December 17 at 9 30 a.m. James S. Denton of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service will cover general tax report points and assist attendees. Lunch will be served at noon and the session ends at 3 38 p.m. Public admission and 1977 Farmers Tax Guide copies will be available.
The Comanche Beginner Band, Jr. High Band, and High School Bands perform their annual Christmas Concert on Monday December 20 at 7 30 p m Admission is 1 for adults and 75 cents for students The event marks the opening of the new high school and invites all to enjoy festive music by the ensembles.
The CHS Indians and Maidens travel to Granbury for a three day basketball tournament. The Maidens open against Weatherford at 9 30 Thursday morning and the Indians meet Diamond Hill at 8 00. Twelve teams are entered.
