Time To Claim Refund on Gas Tax
County operators have until September 30 to claim a refund of the three cents per gallon federal tax on gasoline used on the farm. Forms 2240 are available at the County Agent’s Office. Claims go to the District Director IRS in Austin or Dallas. Farmers should keep records of purchase dates, gallons bought and used in the year, and include fuel used by custom operators. Diesel tax refunds for farm use are also possible with dealer repayment and a signed purchaser statement.
