School Opens August 21 With New Additions and Reopened Campuses
The district plans August 21 start at 8 30 for all grades with four new classrooms at the Elementary School. First grade uses the addition while High School students share space. About 90 percent of classes will be air conditioned. Students travel by bus. no driving except final class or lunch. Enrollment near 1140. Quarter system and trimester reporting. Mercer Gap route merged with Lake Eanes. Lunch prices stay: Elementary 45 cents, middle and high 50 cents. adults 65 cents. Free lunches for qualified students. extra milk 10 cents.

Donkey Ball Benefit for Muscular Dystrophy in Comanche
Comanche Jaycees sponsor a Donkey Ball event at Jaycee Ballpark on Tuesday August 19 at 8 pm with all proceeds to Muscular Dystrophy. Tickets cost 75c for children and students and 1 50 for adults, available locally or at the gate. Richard Smith chairs the project. Ralph E Godfrey of Crescent Oklahoma produces the show. Proctor Receives Fire Truck through Rural Defense Program
The Proctor Volunteer Fire Department under Fire Chief Bill McCamey received a fire truck from the Texas Forest Service with support from the Commissioners Court and state funds. Texas Forest Service crews, and Comanche De Leon and Dublin departments, will train Proctor personnel and assist in fires. The unit is a 750 gallon tank with 100 gpm pump on a surplus 24 ton truck, assembled in Lufkin and painted in Huntsville, with ongoing upkeep funded locally.

Comanche Public School officials announce a free immunization clinic held the last Monday of each month. Sponsored by the State Health Dept with cooperation from the County Health Doctor, the clinic runs 9:30 to 4:00 at the Mims Building on South Houston Street. Architects say planning stays on schedule for the new high school with electrical and mechanical layouts nearly finished and built in fixtures next. School Board meeting set for August 25 to approve sections, final specs due by mid September, bids to prospective contractors in mid October.
