Heavy Fruit And Melon Movement In West Texas
The grape and fruit movement continues with growers selling watermelons and cantaloupes from Comanche to West Texas and beyond. Traders pay 15 to 40 cents per hundred for fruit while a fair grape supply remains for sale. Merlin Stanton reported 999 bushels sold from 16 acres with about 200 more expected. Peaches on the grounds bring 40 cents to $1.01 per bushel with two choice baskets held at $1.25.

Some 4000 to 5000 people are expected Thursday August 17 as Comanche hosts the 32nd Annual Comanche County Pioneers and Ex Soldiers. W D Jenkins says the full program is ready and may surpass prior efforts with old settlers as honor guests leading the day. J R Eanes notes efforts to move the Old Corn Court House to Lake Eanes aid the reunion and anticipates a big crowd. The program opens at nine with band concert and assembly singing followed by speeches round table pioneer discussions old fiddlers contests pioneer dancing wedding costume display from 1856 to date and quartette singing. Comanche County pursues the Sandy Land Farm Experiment Station to be located by a committee at A M College on August 19.
