Rural area counts on festival and annual meeting at the county electric cooperative. A carload appliance sale at Happy has drawn customers, while repair and radio service by George Bingham promises guaranteed workmanship.
Gerald Ebell leads four fellow Comanche Trail Council Explorers and a leader from Brownwood to join 40 Explorers and five leaders from Texas Oklahoma and New Mexico aboard the USS Mann for a MSTS Hawaii cruise. They depart August 10 and return in September learning nautical skills and visiting islands.
The Comanche County Young Farmer Association plans its third annual educational tour at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 11. Stops include Hill Hereford Ranch Walter Hill's herd, Gibson Ranch Beefmaster cattle, Norman Moore Coastal Bermuda peanuts, and Ira Clemons Coastal Bermuda pasture. Public invited to join from the Comanche Vocational Agriculture Building.
South Baptist Church invites the public to attend night services starting August 16 at Copperas Church. Pastor Fields of the First Baptist Church will be present for the opening week.
The Gulfianers sponsored by Freddie Ross of Comanche won the double elimination event here Monday night. Gut defeated the Old Folks 3-2 with Dale Helmsley earning the win. Six teams competed, Finn led by J Newhouse, Arthur Chevrolet managed by Bo Elrod, Proctor managed by Mr Hood.
Parents of first grade and new students in Comanche Public Schools must present certified birth certificates upon enrollment. Baptismal or hospital certificates are not acceptable and obtaining the certificate can take up to 30 days. Verification of smallpox vaccination is also required.
The local All-Star tournament started at the Little League field with De Leon beating Goldthwaite and Comanche defeating Dublin. Round two features Hamilton vs Stephenville and Gorman vs San Saba, followed by Friday games and a 9 p.m. championship Saturday. Comanche previously placed second in two tournaments last week behind San Saba and Stephenville. Jaycee Jerry Wright directs the event.
The Comanche County Quartet will hold a singing convention at Primative Baptist Church in De Leon Friday night at 7 45. Everyone is invited to attend.
The Teenagers led by Sam Salois and Old Folks managed by Paul Richards faced Gulftoners managed by J N Hicks. Winners featured Jimmy Northcutt, Harry Thornton as catchers Dale Helmsley pitcher Richard Crim Cullen Stephens Jr first base Doug Hillhouse second base Jerry Biggs third base and Speedy Hicks in the field. Good crowds attended all games.
A Gospel meeting is set for August 10 to 16 at the Church of Christ 500 N Pearl Comanche. Nelson Stark announces LeRoy Carver of Irving will preach nightly Monday through Saturday at 7 30. Singing classes run 10 to 11 Tuesday through Saturday morning. Stark says all are welcome.
Comanche County Electric Cooperative plans its 26th annual meeting at Indian Memorial Stadium Friday. Registration at 7 p.m. with an 8 p.m. start. Entertainment includes Bob Murphey and Gospel Aires. Two directors will be elected from districts 1 and 3. Attendance prizes valued at over 350 dollars. The cooperative serves 5,600 members across seven counties and emphasizes a program of business, fellowship, and entertainment.
The Honorable Preston Smith, acting Lt Governor of Texas, will be honored with a coffee reception next Thursday, August 13, at a local venue. Local officials invite residents to meet the official and discuss state matters.
Hasse Baptist Church will hold a revival from Friday August 7 through Sunday August 16 with morning services August 10 to 14 at 10 o clock and an evening service at 745. preacher Brownwood speaker LaMoine DeVries from Mt. Olive Illinois and Howard Payne graduate. Bill Croker Comanche to lead singing. Maudie Creek Comanche to be pianist.
The Lt. Governor, in his first term and Democratic nominee, will attend a reception in the Garden Center on August 13 at 3:30. In Co manche for about one hour to erect his friends. The Billie is invited to attend this function.
Farmers in Comanche County are urged to nominate candidates for ASC community committees. Petitions signed by six or more eligible voters may be filed at the County Office before August 17 1964. Election day is September 8 1964 with mail or in person voting at the ASC office.
Comanche Little League All-Stars earned two runner-up finishes in back to back tournaments in San Saba and De Leon. In San Saba they beat Goldthwaite 12 0 and Blanco 6 5 before losing 11 4 to San Saba in the final. In De Leon they beat German 7 5 but fell 7 5 to Stephen ville in the finals. Frances Thompson was named to the De Leon all star team.
Mullin's Oren Rodeo set for Friday August 14 and Saturday August 15 at 8 pm with a 6 pm parade on Saturday. Events include bronc riding calf roping steer roping bull riding and barrel racing. Feature match is John Burrus versus Harold Heath roping. Admission 50 cents for adults 25 cents for children. Call J R Smith or Rufus A Carr in Mullin for entrants.
The chairman and regular ASC community committee members will serve as delegate and alternate delegate and second alternate delegate to the county convention where the ASC county committee will be chosen.
