Houston judge C. W. Robinson told the new grand jury to investigate every unlawful transaction in the county calling the era verging on anarchy worse than Russia. He warned against organizations that would block inquiry and likened crime punishment to tar and feathers.

In Los Angeles on July 30 Judge Burnell of the Pomona Superior Court ruled an ordinance banning Sunday amusement unconstitutional. He said church collections at Sunday services acted as an admission fee, making the law class legislation since it singled out theatres and similar venues while exempting churches.
