Unique Civil War era wall paper newspaper souvenir
Fleming submitted a replica of The Daily Citizen from Vicksburg Mississippi during the Civil War siege. The copy uses wartime type set for the day Union forces took the town and was printed by northern soldiers as a keepsake. The note marks July 4 1863 and notes the last issue of the wall paper paper. Baptist Meeting Draws Large Crowds Again

On July 27 Bangs defeated the Comanche Odd Fellows in floor work of the initiatory degree. The Bangs team earned permanent possession of the medal after a third consecutive win. W B Payne won an individual charge prize and Mrs Miller and Mrs McPherson received proficiency cards in the unwritten work.

W H Engle of Comanche Route 2 gave the office force a bucket of Elberta peaches Thursday. The fruit were enormous and well matured, among the largest seen. Engle recalled gathering eight from his orchard previously, and the editor commends his practical, self sufficient approach.

Hardy Payne shipped what appears to be the first car of melons ever moved from Comanche. The fruit, purchased on the open market, was sent to San Angelo for sale to local dealers. The move fuels hopes for organized melon growing in the region.

District Secretary Visits Local Auxiliary Meeting

Ford Sales in Comanche County Surpass Other Brands
County Clerk data shows 476 automobiles registered in Comanche County with 525 Ford cars, about 68 percent of the fleet. Of cars passing the line, roughly seven of ten are Fords, while three are other brands from a pool of 100 makes. No man ever saw a dissatisfied Ford owner.

George Robert Hart Pioneer Lawyer Dies in Comanche
George Robert Hart died at his home in western Comanche on Tuesday and was buried Wednesday evening. Born December 25 1831 in Hartford Virginia he moved to Texas in 1852 and practiced law in Hill County before moving to Comanche with his wife Martha L Yarbrough. He served in the Confederate army and raised five children three daughters and two sons among them L N Bud Hart Pearl Lumpkin Maggie Irwin Hattie Love lace and Iva Hart. Hart was a respected barrister and civic figure cherished by many in the community.
