Community Singing on the Square Tonight

An open air sing along is planned on the court house lawn at 8 o clock. Youths met Tuesday to rehearse songs but the event is for all residents and anyone who can warble any tune is welcome to join in. If weather permits it promises a spring time evening of music and fellowship.

Officers of the Parent Teacher Association issue a statement endorsing the clean up movement. They say it will uplift the mental, moral and physical welfare of every child and adult in the community.

Clean Up Campaign In Comanche Set For April 26

A committee from the Community Development League has started a city Clean Up Campaign in Comanche. The city council approved April 26 to May 1 as Clean Up week and the Mayor issued a proclamation. Residents should have trash on their premises gathered before the week starts for city hauling. The goal is to remove trash weeds and unsightly buildings to make Comanche one of Texas cleanest towns.

The Study Club endorses the Clean Up Campaign urging residents to clean yards alleys and streets. They state a clean city attracts guests and strangers and call for cooperation to make the effort successful with Mrs I M Cochran as president.

Soloist and Quartet Set for Baptist Church Tonight

George W. Sebren a music publisher from Ashville North Carolina will perform as soloist at the Baptist Church tonight. The Progressive Male Quartet of the city will also sing with members J H Carr P M Fagan Clyde Burleson and Roy Cannon. Sebren formerly taught at Waco Texas and has taught voice at other colleges. He arrived in Comenche last Friday and joined the quartet for the Mills County singing convention.

Deep Test Spudded In On Denny Tract Near Comanche

The Burkburnett National Oil Company spudded a deep test well on the Denny tract near Comanche, seven and a half miles by air from Comanche and six miles from the Jackson shallow well. A Standard rig will drill to 3500 feet or deeper, with Keller Bros. as contractors. The Desdemonia-Sipe Springs Company expanded holdings including the Denny tract, with geological surveys guiding the test on a major Comanche county structure.

Texida Oil Co Contracts Derrick for Texas Drill

J B Sehellworth of The Textdle Oil Co Boise Idaho says a contract with Taylor Building Co Fort Worth for an eighty four foot derrick will be placed on the Lee Campbell tract two miles east of Comanche. Drilling will begin within thirty days as transport facilities permit. Geologist Robert T Hill of Dallas located the site.

Layne Again Elected Superintendent Here

The city school board held its first meeting after the trustee election and chose officers for the year. J. R. Eanes was re elected president G W Jessup vice president and Geo L Sullivan secretary. W H Carpenter G W Jessup and Dr A J Gray were named as new board members. J B Layne was re elected superintendent though his acceptance is not yet decided. The salary level was not fixed but a substantial increase over the present pay is anticipated.
