Rabies in Texas Pets Highlight Vaccination Need
Texas health officials warn that rabies persists in wildlife and pets. In 1971 total rabies cases rose to 322 with cats (21) surpassing dogs (18) and wildlife recording 252 cases led by skunks (186). Only 34.1 percent of biting dogs and under 10 percent of biting cats were vaccinated. Human treatment and a 1962 fatality underline prevention through pet vaccination.
