Reminiscences of a Comanche County Indian Fight
Joel W. Nabers recalls his first battle in May 1861 as Comanche raiders attacked Comanche town. He joined 16 others, with Captain Cunningham, bloodhounds, and fox hounds, pursuing the Indians to Lampasas and Brown's Creek. The fight included hand to hand actions, several wounded and dead, and a signpost made from an Indian, with Capt. Cunningham wounded in the finger.
