Referendum on Senior Homestead Tax Exemption Proposed
Voters in the school district will decide a referendum on exempting the first 3000 dollars of assessed value for homesteads of residents 65 and over. The measure is nonbinding and requires annual requests. If approved, about 20000 dollars in revenue could be lost and other property owners could face roughly an 8 cent per 100 assessed value increase to offset the loss. The exemption would apply to all seniors age 65 plus regardless of property amount.
