State Tax Proposals Provoke Broad Revenue Debate
Amid a rush of revenue bills in the House at mid-session, governors plans propose multiple taxes to close a deficit. Highlights include sales taxes across broad categories, a new franchise tax for 40,000 Texas corporations, motor vehicle tax increases, and a 200 million rise from various measures. The Senate may amend or reject, while party lines sharpen as public notices and donor acknowledgments appear.
