Platform supporters organize in Comanche county meeting

A large crowd gathered at the Comanche county courthouse as FT. Worth Platform Supporters organize into four county groups with TH. Burks as chairman and W. D. Carroll secretary. Precinct chairmen were elected for Comanche 1 and 2 and several named locales. A meeting at De Leon is set for tomorrow at 2 PM with a speaker promised.

Tonight at 7 30 the city Development League holds its regular monthly meeting at the Chamber of Commerce. Members are urged to attend to discuss upcoming projects and community development initiatives.

Clerk Adds Postoffice Force in Comanche Town

Due to rising business at the Comanche post office, a new clerk is added by order of the Post Office Department effective April 1. Ernest L. Carpenter is appointed after a top civil service exam. An inspector from Washington, at Congressman Blanton’s request, found the office’s growth warrants extra help. Postal sales are expected to rise 25 to 35 percent for the year July 1, 1919 to July 1, 1920.

City election to choose three aldermen next Tuesday

The city will hold a vote next Tuesday April 6 to elect three aldermen. Citizens are reminded to vote and participate in the local government process.

Rebekah Lodge Celebrates Fourteenth Birthday Night

Comanche Rebekah Lodge held its fourteenth anniversary with a masquerade party. Members wore diverse costumes from gypsy fortune teller to Turkish woman and colonial belle. Mrs. Lige Woodward’s negro mammy and Mrs. McBrayer as Mrs. Jiggs drew laughs. Mrs. Franklin wore Aunt Bettie Roberson’s wedding dress. After games, punch and cake were served.

Majestic Theater 19 Enlarged with Forty Foot Addition

The Majestic Theater is being enlarged by a forty foot rear addition adding about 250 seats for a total of around 600. Construction has started with work planned on remodeling, a new front and ornamental awning. Harry Brinn owns the building and CAver manager sought space for larger crowds. Estimated cost ranges from 5000 to 6000 dollars with several interior improvements planned.

Local ice plant to start operations next week

Manager J T Hareed says the local ice plant will be in operation next week. The smoke stack delay is resolved and general repair work remaining should finish in a few days, with supplying the needs of the people soon.

Messrs Moody and Lane proprietors of the Owl Confectionery are installing an ice cream plant to operate with their confectionery. They have received their machinery and expect it to be in operation the latter part of next week. They are assured of a steady cream supply.

Sturkie well near Hasse shows oil and gas at depth

The Sturkie well at Hasse was reported Tuesday drilling at 3870 feet with good oil and gas showings. An observer noted no gusher yet but believed nitroglycerine shooting could yield a strong well as major companies including Texas St Clair Humble Gulf and Okefe operate nearby.

Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks Wed in Los Angeles

Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks have married after obtaining a license last Saturday and a Sunday ceremony conducted by Rev. d Whitcomb Brougher of Temple Baptist Church. The couple, now reportedly honeymooning quietly at Fairbanks residence in Beverly Hills, had both been previously married. Pickford had a Nevada divorce from Owen Moore earlier this month. Fairbanks' former wife had a New York divorce nearly two years ago.

Burks the secretary treasurer reports the Desdemona to De Leon line grading advances. The fourth mile out from De Leon will be finished by Saturday night with about a quarter mile graded from Desdemona toward De Leon. Bridge materials have arrived and are on site at De Leon.

Weatherford Texas March 30 Parker county becomes first Texas county to buy a prize ticket for a farm boy to ride the Texas Farm Boys Special train. The $300 ticket, funded by Knox Realty and Parker County Abstract, promotes a competitive exam by the Farm Boy's Club of A and M College to select 150 future Texas farmers for an eighteen state tour in August under the Texas Chamber of Commerce and Extension Service.
