Signs show a mixed lumber outlook with Colville Valley Lumber Company closing indefinitely while Aladdin mills reopen and expect strong demand. E P LaSota says local supply is tight as manufacturers need replacements, and mills at Aladdin opened two weeks ago. St Maries Idaho and Deer Park Lumber Co reopened after winter. Humbird Mills at Sandpoint also reopened and Dalkena mills plan winter logging.

Heberling Loses Left Leg in Shotgun Accident
City and county engineer C. A. Heberling was seriously injured when a loaded shotgun discharged at his ranch near Stevensville while he and Dr. J. J. Ingle tested the weapon. Nurse Miss Marjorie Ide applied a tourniquet and kept him alive until hospital care.

Moonshiner Shoots Self in South Basin
J G Shelton age 60 a home steader in South Basin died by his own action using a 38 55 rifle. Deputies Ledgerwood and Dorman found the body while arresting him on a moonshine charge. A still and several hundred gallons of mash were located nearby.

State orders removal of 500 road signs in Stevens County
About 500 advertising signs belonging to Stevens County firms must be removed from primary highways by November 15 after a letter from James Allen, state highways supervisor. Signs on private property may be moved. the order targets dangers and landscape impact, with confiscation if ignored. The Kettle Falls road and up to Palmer Siding are affected as the highway is prepared.

Deer Park Farmer Held for Making Moonshine
William Burk, a Deer Park area farmer, was arrested by Deputy Sheriff T. E. Trish in Stevens county on moonshine charges. A small corn whisky still was found at his home, with customers from Spokane visiting at night. his wife was staying nearby and sought to press charges.

J. E. Reid, of the J. G. White Co. orchards near Marble, ships about seventy thousand boxes of Winesap Wealthies and Jonathan apples. The New York City based company owns orchards worldwide, including Australia and Africa, with 6700 trees on 100 acres not cleared a decade ago. They also cultivate alfalfa yielding 3000 to 4000 tons. Fifteen workers stay year round, over one hundred during apple season.
