Transportation boom fuels Metaline district plans
Transportation for the Metaline district appears assured with a Portland syndicate promising a steamer by July 1 to haul ore to the Sandpoint smelter and the Idaho & Washington Northern Railway preparing routes down the Pend d Oreille. A new Metaline Rapid Transit company has been formed in Spokane with capital of 3000, while the Blackwell-led railroad expansion seeks to unite Newport, Metaline, and Spokane with a 5 million mortgage to fund extensions. A 225-ton concentrator and other projects are poised to push district output, despite notes on low grade ore and fissure vein discoveries.
