Chautauqua Opens Thursday in Ellensburg Hopeful News Campaigns
A week of Washington state press association activities in Ellensburg showcased a three day program with Governor Lister, University of Washington leaders, and editors from Seattle to Portland. The event produced extensive publicity for eastern Washington and highlighted new republican and democratic party organization along with plans for rail and town promotion. Additionally Colville hosted Al G Barnes circus crowds, while socialist candidates gain steam in Stevens county. The historical piece also traces the origin and growth of the Eastern Washington Hospital for the Insane at Medical Lake from 1886 to 1894, detailing site selection, funding, construction, and early operations.
