Colville City Council Swears In New Officials

The Colville city council opened the new year with swearing in of the mayor and council on Jan 4. E C Conner becomes mayor and plans to appoint Sid F Raines. several incumbents are re elected or replaced as the council tackles long term improvement work and rolls for assessment districts. Special meetings follow to confirm rolls and appointive officers.

Death Comes Suddenly to Mrs. A. E. Skidmore

Mrs. Clara Marie Skidmore died at her Colville valley farm from heart trouble after a week of illness. She was 55, born January 8, 1866 in Diamond Bluff Wisconsin. Survived by husband A. E. Skidmore and sons E. A. L. M. and R. E. Skidmore. Funeral at the M E church with Rev. C. E. Whitten officiating. Interment at Highland amid pallbearers from local neighbors.

A Colville church hosts a Tuesday evening benefit at 8 15 for Europe’s starving children. Tickets at twenty five cents support four tickets per child per month, with proceeds toward the Colville quota of 600 dollars. local groups and Scouts assist with sales and décor.

Colville high school committees under H A Scarborough launch a beauty pageant to boost student activity ticket sales. The all school play Charleys Aunt debuts Jan 21 at the opera house. Beanery postponed to Jan 22 due to Copperhead. Semester exams begin Jan 14 18 with some exemptions for high grades and good attendance. Class of 1920 day features plaster cast statues donated by juniors with remarks from alumni and college guests. Two new freshmen Vera Hunter and Howard Callanan join total enrollment 239.

Colville A C Defeats Northwest Magnesite 29 to 15

Colville Athletic Club beat Northwest Magnesite of Chewelah 29 to 15 in Colville gym. Oberhansly led scoring with 9, followed by Werni 6, Smith 4, Seal 4, Lynch 4, Inman 2. Referee illness forced substitute officiating. Colville plans a rematch in Chewelah tonight. The club will compete under American Amateur Athletic Association rules.
