The Georgetown business section in Eldorado county was burned and exploded after a giant powder blast at Sornberger's store. Mrs William Newelo was killed and Mrs McLain injured with others sustaining injuries. Fifteen business houses were destroyed and losses total about 175000.
Smith College celebrates Ivy Day with 150 girls in snowy white carrying flowers as ivy climbs the main building. At Wellesley the festivities include an illuminated star and boat pageant on the lake followed by dramatic role play and prankish spectrums around the park as students enact goblins and spirits amid dances.
Tramps bound for Michigan strawberry harvest werelocked inside a box car by Conductor Scutt of the Big Four after he moved them off toward a lonely siding. The car door was sealed and the group remained aboard until their noise drew attention as harvest work neared Benton Harbor.
The eight year old daughter of Henry Park, at Russel's farm on Alex Russell's road, was severely bitten by a large dog Saturday evening. She was crossing the road when the animal attacked, biting her ear and limbs. Dr Howe attended and she is improving as expected.

It is believed in Washington that Dr Hunter received written promises of support or care upon quitting the senatorial race. The pledges are said to be redeemable once he is cleared of pending indictments.
Francis Cordrry of Fort Wayne returned home after prospecting in Brown County. He carried fine gold and silver specimens found on farms near Ohio Ridge. Cordrey, a veteran hunter, notes plenty of metal but the ground is hard to work and unprofitable to mine locally.

Thomas Redman fell from a hog wagon near the Petersville pike and was taken home for medical care after the mishap. Emma Smomers, 58, died Monday at her parents’ home south of town. funeral at Garden City at 10 o'clock with Rev. Swift officiating. Burial in City Cemetery.
Jim Burrel was arrested by Constable Gable and brought before Justice Palmer for a preliminary hearing in the Mary Griner vs James Burrel bastardy case. He requested to see attorney Dave Emig, who was granted access, and has since vanished. Sources say the case may be compromised rather than proceed to court.
