Pittsburg district operators ratify a uniformity agreement excluding the Miners Union and binding only on employers. existing contracts stand and a rift with miners looms. Also noted are political moves in Maryland and Kentucky, a Yukon steamship link, a Chicago syndicate coal deal near completion, and various local legal and crime items.
Louis Lehman and his clerks plan a Sunday outing after a busy week. They will picnic on the Driftwood near Lowell with fishing and boating as the main amusements. The gesture honors the staff for long hours and hot weather.
Miss Olive and Master Raymond Thompson returned yesterday from an extended visit with Shelbyville friends. Mrs Ida Rogers and children of Azalia, visiting Spencer and Martinsville, returned yesterday. Lt O Royer was a Madison passenger yesterday. Mrs Lottie Dye was an Indianapolis passenger yesterday. Miss Ella Duncan left yesterday to visit her sister at Bedford. Miss Mary Roope was an Indianap resident. Mrs George Ellis and children left yesterday for Greenfield. Amory Irwin came down from Indianapolis Wednesday. Misses Katie and Maggie Swartz visit Henryville. Mrs Laura Dobson, visiting Willis Dobson's family, left for Bethany Park yesterday and will be joined by Mrs Willis Dobson next Tuesday. James M McKinney of near Freetown was in the city. Dr J M Cook of Nashville was in the city yesterday. John Kirtz of Brown county was in the city.
Late Wednesday a group of Columbus society members toured the city in a large picnic wagon fitted with a piano and instruments, serenading friends. The anonymous editor notes an uninvited but pleasant auditory experience amid the shadows by a signboard.
The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brown of Orinoco died Thursday morning at 9 o clock after a sickness. Funeral services will be at ten o clock today from the family residence conducted by Rev. D C Darling. Interment at Sandcreek cemetery. John Graves remains in the same condition. Also notes on local happenings include a strike update, visits, illnesses, and community events such as a Sunday School picnic near Newbern next Thursday.
Miss Jennette Dickey hosted the Twentieth Century Daisy Club at her northeast of the city home on Wednesday night. Lawn lanterns and clover carpeted grounds enhanced croquet and music as members enjoyed the party and a ride home in Jones Lambert’s picnic wagon. Also noted: two Spragg children ill with typhoid fever, Camp Wildwood to close soon, a WWI era reminiscence from the Democrat, a womans auxiliary meeting at the Y M C A, German Fire Insurance agent August Dephers in town, Miss Grace Alexander visiting, and the Star’s new press arriving for installation.
Superintendent Arthur Coningsby and assistant Mr. Sweet with agents camped on the riverbank near Lowell for a fishing outing. Participants include George Secore, Harry Linton, Charles Linton, Charles Thompson, and W. S. Bostic. Special transport arranged for the catch. A separate Franklin note mentions a drunken fight with a woman in the case.
President Ingalls of the Big 4 argues a Franklin Fairland and Martinsville line costing 50000 was assessed at 200000, calling for lower taxes though the road runs three daily trains with good track and revenue.
