The A M E Church Camp meeting began last night at Driving Park and will run for ten consecutive nights. In Missouri a gold discovery near New Florence along Dry Fork Creek in Montgomery County is reported by geologist Dr G A Broadhead from the State University. Discoverer M A Bibb has sent quartz consignments to Broadhead whose assays confirm the gold. Broadhead plans to visit Montgomery County to inspect the vein.
Mrs. James Kervin of Cleveland arrived in St Louis seeking a job husband had promised. He left, she spent her money, and with a child in her arms she began walking back toward Ohio, passing through Anderson last night in destitute condition.
Property of the Georgia Mining Manufacturing and Investment Company, mainly coal and iron mines in North Georgia valued at 1 million dollars, sold today by Receiver Julius L. Brown. Certificate holders’ attorney Clifford L. Anderson bought it for 24,805 dollars.
A carrier pigeon with North Pole 142 W 47.62 stamped on its silver ring was found near Svevde in west coast Norway. The note suggested a connection to Andree's Arctic expedition, with prior pigeons reportedly reaching England en route to Alaska. Manager Eckman notified, alarm box trouble delayed firefighting. Suspected arson by boys. loss not great but could have been severe. Also note: Industrial World reports 3000 tons of Bessemer pig iron from Milwaukee sold for export to Germany with other inquiries surfacing.
Leroy Minning Company announces a $200,000 dividend, its second this month, bringing total paid to $475,000. A third dividend is anticipated before month end as the mine remains profitable.
