Simon Cooper, a black outlaw who yesterday killed three members of the Wilson family and a colored servant, was lynched near Suarrr, 8. C. Local posse captured him and attempted to transport to Sumter but were overpowered by a mob. A rope was placed over a tree limb and Cooper was hanged.
F S Yager, a prominent Chattanooga attorney, was named special assistant for the district to United States Attorney General Harmon. A noted gold Democrat, he won broad Democratic backing for his stance on the currency issue.
