Ezra Reed lay ill at home as 25 stout corn shuckers gathered at his farm west of town. They harvested 14 acres yielding 700 bushels and stored it in the crib by 1 pm. Lewis Hamsher was praised as the best shucker while women provided a large, fine dinner.
Voters across the community cast ballots in a watch contest with numerous entrants. Listed names include J. Kaiser, B. L. Williams, Emma Ping, Ilie Smith, Susie Wilson, Walter Waltman, and others, as final tallies emerge. The page notes ongoing counting and anticipation of a finish.

Union services convene Thursday morning at 15 3. Rev E B Schofield of the Christian church will lead with ministers from other churches assisting. Music will be provided and an offering for the poor will be collected and given to the King's Daughters.
Mrs. Davis family plans to visit Elwood while Bartholomew County Farmers Institute convenes in Hope on December 15 and 16 1897. The Woman's Musical opens with an open day programme at the Presbyterian church Friday evening.

Henry Patterson and wife present an exhibition in our city featuring a skeleton of an unknown water animal originally over 360 feet long. Weighing over 400 pounds with ribs 25 feet long and twelve ribs on each side. Found in sand 15 miles south of Wichita Kansas by N. Phelps on Sept 29 1893. On display for over three years in the room next to Becht's cigar store.
