Officious Assessor and Mrs Atwood Dog Tragedy

Mrs Ellzabeth Atwood of Shelbyville owned a farm dog that spent time in town. An assessor demanded a one dollar dog tax and killed the dog with poison after being refused. He paid a $14.60 fine for malicious trespass. Atwood then sued for damages.
