Washington reports President McKinley promoted Dewey to admiral in the United States Navy after his celebrated naval actions. Dispatches describe world reaction from Key West to London, with Spain and Madrid noting casualties and strategic moves in Manila.
Mrs Curtiss receives word that Dr Curtiss body will depart New York by through express to St Louis then on to Indianapolis arriving 10 o clock tonight. Body to be moved to Davidson Hendersons undertaking establishment before transfer to the late home to lie in state until Thursday afternoon funeral at 2 oclock in M E church. After services body to remain in church until Friday morning and then proceed to Indianapolis for burial at Crown Hill Cemetery.
In Elizabethtown on Monday the Republican candidate F. 8. Butler won the clerk and treasurer post. George Carter secured a seat on the council along with Democrat Albert Reap and Democrat Charles Brinker.
Rushville and Franklin ticket stations offer low rate excursion tickets to Louisville for the May Musical Festival. Tickets are valid May 10 and return on May 12, with intermediate stations available along Pennsylvania Lines.
