Night Storm Ravages Orinoco Causing Damages
A Saturday gale blew through Orinoco causing roof loss at the water works and damaged sheds. Telegraph and telephone lines broke between the city and Louisville and Madison, with 157 poles down to Louisville and 126 to Madison. Residents Miss Alvin Maley and Leland Robbins visited relatives near Edisburg before returning home. The Wm. Campbell and Co. paper line handled by Geo. E. Ellis is noted for fine colorings and border.

Unprofitable Economy Targets Postal Postage Rates
A persistent proposal by Congressman Loud of California would raise postage for newspapers and periodicals and curb sample copies. The plan would push complete books to 8 cents per pound, risking higher book prices and less access to affordable reading for the masses. Fire destroys Mooney & Sons tannery and beer warehouse
About 1 30 Sunday morning an alarm from Box 17 reported a blaze at Mooney and Sons tannery. The fire confined to the hair warehouse was rapid with the building soon burning. A second alarm at 2 o clock found the old Big Four beer warehouse nearby also consumed. Sparks from the first fire likely started the second blaze. A strong wind away from the tannery helped save the main plant.
