Eyewitness Richard Spillane details a galveston catastrophe with an estimated 1500 deaths. He describes a city in ruins, widespread destruction from wind speeds around 84 mph, flooding, ruined schools and churches, and refugees spread across higher ground.
Describes a cyclonic wind and tides flooding Galveston. By 3 pm water filled bays and streets. electric and gas plants failed leaving darkness. Wreckage, collapsed roofs, and drowning risks filled the night until 1 45 am. Surviving residents found bodies amid ruined blocks and storefront fronts stripped.
A sudden collapse devastates the area as several buildings topple. Emergency crews respond to the scene seeking survivors amid the rubble. Authorities advise residents to stay clear and await further updates.
The Mistrat house became a hospital as city hospitals ran dry. Half a million feet of lumber vanished at the Southern Pacific works and eight ocean steamers were torn from moorings. The Kendall castle and Norwegian steamer Gyller were wrecked near Texas City. An ocean liner circled the bay and lay submerged near railroad debris, while Taunton and Alanso were driven ashore along Pelican Point and East Bay wrecks.
Destruction sweeps Texas City with ships wrecked and bayside vessels strewn for miles. The Lou ise tug is a wreck and half the city’s property may be wiped out with many residents facing poverty. Three residents drown in Texas City and lifeboats and vessels are found inland and far from shore.

The large dry goods and nation store of Conrad Auerbach in Bedford Indiana was partly destroyed by fire. Water and smoke left almost the entire stock and contents a total loss. The building, owned by Auerbach, carried $3500 Hartford insurance and the stock valued at $10000 with $7000 insured.
Secretary Charles Sawyer of the Tin Plate Workers International Protective Association of America announces a second wage committee conference with representatives of the American Tin Plate Co. to be held in New York next Thursday.
In Jeffersonville Indiana on September 11 a wedding was held for Wallace Dean and Nort Have. The bride is described as a midget three feet tall weighing 48 pounds. The groom is a large man and reportedly the bride's uncle.
Laporte Indiana Sept 11 Johan Barnum has filed a damage suit in the circuit court against the Grand Trank Railway Co asking 10000 damages. Bar num was struck by a train on that road and received injuries that necessitated the amputation of one of his legs.
