A landing party of 120 Germans under four officers engaged natives at a village after arriving from the Moewe. Fire exchanged, three casualties among the natives, six natives shot, and the force shelved the village with destructive results before returning to the warship.
United States Indian Agent Schoenfeldt reports widespread noncitizen intrusions into Five Civilized Tribes lands. He cites 2000 complaints, most against white men who secure allotments and refuse rent or vacate, leaving Indians unable to claim rents. The tribes total about 84,750 with 19,776,256 acres. recommends Congress fund debt repayment, tax noncitizen residents, and establish a workhouse.
From St. Paul Minnesota on November 5 the health of Senator C K Davis is described as greatly worse with grave fears his life could be saved only at the cost of his foot or leg. Infection and fever have worsened since Friday prompting a Chicago specialist to be summoned. He remains restless and unaware of the full seriousness of his condition.
The Cunard liner Saxonia arrives with 15 crew members from the Mary Mosquito, sank off Gloucester at Boston departure. One sailor drowned. Saxonia reports no damage. Capt. Pritchard commands.
In Santiago de Cuba on November 5 the Cuban and American teams clashed in an international game. The Americans, featuring two ex National League players and several colleagues, won 8 to 4.

Redding California November 5 In the wreck of a Southern Pacific freight train near Kosci Sunday two men were killed and three others injured. All were riding on a flatcar loaded with lumber. The axle of the car broke and five cars were piled up in confusion.
Another group of Yaqui Indian prisoners arrived in Guadalajara under guard of the Eighth battalion. They were ferried to Manzanillo by boat and traveled overland to the city, with many women and children among them.

The company is understood to have refused concessions on a list of grievances.
