Washington May 9 The government and claimants settle years of dispute over the nickel process for armor plate. The agreement allows future use by the government or private contractors, with a broad release to cover armor making by the United States or any government working firm. The compromise payment ranges from thirty to eighty thousand dollars.
A Wednesday blaze in Augusta started in a storage compartment of the Union Compress Co building at 1 o'clock. The fire spread to Whitney & Co warehouse, destroying thousands of bales of cotton and causing about $105,000 in Whitney losses, $50,400 for Phinizy, and $4,000 for the compress company, with $10,000 in building damage.

Fred Smith son of ex Judge Smith of Osborne county Kan was shot and killed in a Wichita restaurant on Wednesday night He began firing a pistol in a room filled with women and children before Cook Snoddy drew a pistol and killed him at the scene.
New Orleans reports Aladdin Vincent struck oil at his home place about 17 miles west of Lake Charles. The 200 to 300 foot well yields oil at about 25 barrels per day and is not a gusher.
