Born in Norwalk Quebec he joined the Detroit conference and served as chaplain and cavalry colonel during the Civil War before returning to journalism rising to editor in chief of the Northwestern Christian Advocate. He attended the 1881 Ecumenical Conference in London and suffered heart trouble before his death.
