Washington June 23 The House adjourned with the silver faction pressing the bill to the Speaker’s table and a ruling that Bland’s appeal was out of order. Bland appealed again after the Speaker referred the bill to the coinage committee, but McKinley moved to lay it on the table amid shouting and debate. The vote to lay Bland’s appeal on the table stood 144 yeas to 117 nays. The Senate meanwhile advanced the legislative appropriation bill and debated a Mormon property issue linked to schooling in Utah.
