President Harrison refuses to approve a public building bill. The veto halts plans for government construction projects and shifts funding debates to lawmakers in Congress.
Washington June 14. Senator Davis outlined the dependent pension changes and cost estimates, noting the bill would raise total costs to about 41 to 42 million dollars. The House and Senate discussed broad appropriation totals, with emphasis on pension, post office and naval bills and river and harbor funding levels.
Elmira July 14. Herbert Warren 16 shot his father Frank Warren a traveling salesman at his home after a quarrel with the wife. The boy said he fired to prevent his mother from being beaten. He was arrested and cool about the act.
Governor Fifer issues proclamation calling the Illinois General Assembly to convene July 23 in Springfield to address world’s Columbian exposition matters. The session will consider constitution amendments, park bond authorizations, eminent domain for Chicago, and funding for the event.

Port Huron to begin a second tunnel costing 3 million dollars. The United States Baking Company formation announced in Zanesville.
STIS. TLIC INNA ANA MIChigan has been organized with headquarters at Richmond Indiana. The capital of the new company is five million dollars. Hale must stand trial and a grand jury action is awaited for the case involving Eugene Cowles. Typographical Union officers re-elected in Atlanta. Railroad flood case in Pittsburgh ends with verdict for the Pennsylvania Railroad. A Topeka fire on East Sixth Street causes extensive damage, destroying a livery stable and other businesses. about twenty horses perish.
Sparks from the wires report the Bay Ridge factory was totally destroyed by fire with losses pegged at 75000. Other items include trainmen Ed Hoffman and J Nicholson killed in a freight collision near Ottez, a man assaulted near Cadillac Mich driven insane by fright, and a Swede trial on wheat theft who hanged himself in Coldwater jail.
June 14 Rosebud and Rosenup Mont report show escalating clashes as northern Cheyennes slaughter cattle and attack settlers. Gov. Toole arms and Col Curtis distribute supplies while troops from Fort Keogh and Fort Buford move to establish protection. Crows ally with whites while Pine Ridge and Standing Rock bands threaten united action.
