In the House and Senate on Monday and June 3, lawmakers clashed over tariff remarks by Mr. Cox of New York, Nevada criticisms, pension timing, and the Gettysburg celebration fund. Senator Gray urged ratification of the fisheries treaty, praising its priorities for American fishermen and warning against party opposition.
Peter Alt proprietor of the Arlington House near Pimlico race track was shot and killed by his 15 year old son William after a family quarrel. The wife said the shooting occurred in self defense as Alt, in a drunken rage, assaulted her with a broken cup and severed words. The boy was arrested after an emotional farewell with his mother.
In Astontrowy Pennsylvania on June 18 Charles Humbert, a wealthy resident of Fairchance, was robbed by masked men who burned his feet and tied him to a bed after failing to obtain money. A lynching party has formed. Separate dispatches report a rate war among Pittsburgh roads ahead of a Chicago convention with round trip fares as low as five dollars. In Springfield Illinois crop reports warn chinch bugs threaten wheat and corn, with potential record crop failure without timely rain.
A young man bought a $3.50 revolver at Powell's on Maine Street Cincinnati, paid with a ten dollar bill, then shot himself in the temple as the clerk prepared change. A card reading Henry Frazer Cincinnati was found in his pocket.
Reports from Detroit Michigan and PortLane Oregon describe domestic shootings with double suicides. John Munchthaler, 32 Jefferson Avenue Detroit, killed his wife then himself after a quarrel. In PortLane Peter Shannon, 60, shot his wife 55 and killed himself, jealousy cited as motive.
Louisville on June 13 reports Charles S. Morris elected president of the national Colored Young Men’s Christian Association. Morris is 22, a former Louisville public school teacher, Howard College graduate, and plans to attend Harvard.
Harrisons Pennsylvania June 13 The Pennsylvania Board of Pardons asks Governor Beaver to grant a respite to Samuel Johnson, condemned for the murder of John Sharpless, until October 12 to allow time for indictments against others suspected in the case.
Wasaw and Washington reports detail Sherman contingent s confidence that he will be the National Republican nominee. Notes from meetings at the capitol and discussions with New York and Pennsylvania delegates bolster the claim despite rival candidacies.
Reports from Wacatox Illinois describe seventeen year locusts covering bushes hedges and trees eating currants maples potato vines and arbor vitae. They shed skins grow two inches long with wings four inches wide and live forty days. Nearby Dusvagueg Iowa notes two year off locust appearance. Constantine province suffers extensive damage as locusts advance across twelve by six miles. Ontario’s Lord Stanley takes oath as Governor General and mingles with officials. Public park dispute in Bexoir Wisconsin over Mechanics Green arises as heirs claim ownership. A training camp fire in Trxmap Colorado destroys ten buildings. Cotton losses in Norvock Virginia total sixty thousand dollars. Bucket shop indictments issued in Montreat Canada over twenty thousand pounds. Sheridan’s mother dies in SemeEnset Ohio.
June 13 report from Ocota and Yates describes unprecedented northern Minnesota flooding. The St Louis River basin overrun, Cloquet island area submerged, 80 to 200 million logs jammed in booms, bridges destroyed, rail lines flooded, and water levels rising. In West Duluth the harbor rose. several killed in a Friday storm, including Indian chief Shell King and his son Mattie Dambrowski, believed drowned.
In St Louis on June 13 many great singers for the Saenger Fest arrive including Lilli Lehman Paul Kalisch Annie Laukow Emma Juch Adele Aus der Ohre Emil Steger Henry Schlieben Alvary Emil Fischer and the Thomas orchestra. Notable arrivals come from Chicago Milwaukee Detroit Cincinnati and other eastern cities. The great hall is decorated and a rehearsal of soloists and orchestra was held Monday night.
New York June 13 Alice Woodhall ex servant of John Gill was discharged by Judge Gildersleeve after an extradition bid on a 1883 forgery charge. She will sail on the first steamer to England ending the international episode. Anna L. Hower escaped from Alamosa penitentiary Cedar Rapids case involved murder in the second degree and accomplice with her husband killing him.
The Evansville Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway Company filed articles of incorporation with the Secretary of State. The proposed line traverses Vanderburg Posey Warrick Gibson Pike Davies Knox Sullivan Greene Clay Park Putnam Montgomery Fountain Tippecanoe Carroll Cass Miami Wabash Huntington and Allen counties with capital stock of 2 million dollars.
The committee chaired by Judge Thurman to invite President and Mrs. Cleveland to the Cincinnati Exposition opening has postponed the Washington trip to the last week of June at Thurman’s request.

A New England boat wreck near Vinal Haven, Maine, Sunday left five men in the water. Grant survived while John Smith, Harry Smith, William J. Bishop, Edward Fellows, and George Grant were aboard. Four men died in the incident. The victims’ names and ages are listed.
Shad is being caught with fly tackle in the Hudson river. The growth of vegetation in Ohio has been greatly retarded by low temperature. Jay Gould is not serious. ill, as has been reported, still he is not in the best of health. Governor Hill has vetoed the Electoral Reform bill passed by the New Yok Legislature. Calvin Gibbs of Grand Rapids Michigan, 67 years old, was sent to prison for two years Monday for seduction. Chairman Mills of the Ways and Means Committee thinks the Tariff bill will pass the House the first week in July. A dynamite bomb was found in a barrel of fish taken from the hull of the steamer City of Cleveland at Detroit recently. Patrick Ford calls upon the Republican convention in Chicago to nominate Mr. Blaine. Orange Judd Green of Alfred Center New York a student at Cornell drowned Sunday afternoon while bathing. Alexander Johnson of Galesburg Illinois a striker was fined 200 dollars and jailed thirty days for firing at a Burlington employee. Verplanck's Point on the Hudson river is guarded by Pinkerton detectives over labor troubles. In Worthsville Indiana Benjamin Law Sr shot and killed his farm hand Aaron H Lamar claiming the latter had been intimate with Mrs. Law. Prof George D Adams of Drury College Massachusetts has accepted a chair at Yale College. John Kitsmann of Jefferson Wisconsin died from injuries after a beating two years ago. his lower limbs were paralyzed. Dr Wiley of Gainesville Texas stripped his wife and beat her. she will die and he narrowly escaped lynching.
A shoe-maker Albert Wettber was arrested at Crim mitzchan Saxony on a Watertown Wis banker murder charge from August 25 1886. The crime aimed at robbery netting $13000 and Wettber had lived in Germany since. An anonymous tip led to the arrest.
The body of T Harrison Garrett, drowned when the yacht Glenbean sank last Thursday night, was recovered about a mile from the accident site. The Nan ticoke steamer carried the remains to Baltimore and the corpse was found in surprisingly good condition. Fran James noted as Knight.
