Disaster at Ford's Theatre ruins government archives in Washington
Washington June 10. Ford's Opera House on Tenth Street collapsed while laborers excavated beneath for electric work. The disaster buried clerks from the War Department archives and wrecked the building's upper floors. Rescue efforts continued as officials opened hospitals and sent naval doctors to aid the injured. Between fifty and seventy five killed, with many more feared dead.
