A large fire devastated a section of Seattle named for its prominence and influence. Fire crews fought the blaze through a windy night, with several blocks left uninhabitable and widespread damage reported among shops and residences. Authorities investigated the cause while coordinating rescue and salvage efforts.
A second great fire devastated Seattle on Front street between Marion and Madison, wiping out sixty four acres of business property. The blaze destroyed Frye's opera house and guarded warehouses, hotels, and wharves, with losses estimated at 11 million in buildings and up to 20 million in personal property. Police and militia guarded the streets as firefighters from Tacoma and Snohomish fought the flames.

Murphy for Lieutenant Governor, W. O. Maginnis for Supreme Judge, Mrs C. A. Dunham for Superintendent of Public Instruction, and J. W. Nobile for Railroad Commissioner.
Mrs Andrew Harty wife of a well known St Louis citizen died suddenly Wednesday night while kneeling at her bedside in prayer. She had been in good health half an hour earlier and was a devout Catholic. One son is Father Harty rector of St Leo's Church. Heart disease is believed to be the cause.
William Roan, a Wyoming Territory convict serving three years for assault to murder, was pardoned by the Wyoming governor at Joliet prison. He must abstain from alcohol or face reimprisonment and signed an oath before the pardon. Separate items report a fire destroying Offenburg mills with 300000 mark loss and several deaths, large Bavarian disasters, and a severe London thunderstorm with property damage and fatalities.
Warm weather raises fears of outbreaks in Johnstown with five diphtheria cases and dysentery noted amid meat shortages. Waifs' Mission aids orphans as death toll estimates drop from 12,000 toward about 9,000. Dam owners face mounting pressure and calls for civil action. Chicago June 4 Coroner Hertz reopened the Cronin inquest with Officer Milla Whalen and Peter McGeehan missing. A warrant was issued for McGeehan as the probe probes treason charges linked to the Clan na Gael. Luke Dillon testifies that Sullivan may be involved. others deny involvement and recall conflicting alibis.
