Fire wipes out Parkesley town business district

Just built Parkesley Va on the New York Philadelphia Norfolk railroad. The fire Wednesday afternoon destroyed twelve stores the post office ten small shops and three barrel factories. Four stores remain. Homes lost as residents saved only clothes. Duane avenue all burned. Loss about 60000 with 12000 insurance.

Madstone Hunt After Dog Bite Reports Across States

In Clarksville Tennessee two Rudolph children were bitten by a mad dog with one leg lacerated and the other a hand bite. Nearby towns report prior dog bites to livestock and farm stock two weeks earlier as excitement rises over a sought madstone. Other dispatches note bonds in Ricumonp Kentucky sparking restraining order requests, a jockey's death in Cincinnati, and camp plans in Frankfort Kentucky being canceled.

The body of an unknown man was found floating in the river Tuesday and is believed to be a victim of last week's tornado. This adds to the death list in the past 24 hours, with a summary of St Louis fatalities prepared Wednesday morning.

Tornado Relief Efforts Update In East St Louis

Burials reached 127 with 18 hospitalized and 90 missing. A relief fund rose to 140000 by Wednesday morning with expectations of 10000 more. 800 families aided, about 4000 individuals helped. Schools reopening, churches repairing, and Eads Bridge traffic resumed. The tornado toll updated includes 99 identified dead, 2 unidentified, 26 missing, 7 fatally injured totaling 154. Relief fund stood at 44000 with 5000 more expected.

Active preparations for the 30th national encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in St Paul Minnesota from August 31 to September 5 include free quarters in school buildings and a veteran camp. Duel Between Campos and Borrero Stopped by Authorities

Fatal Lodging House Fire Claims Three Lives in Philadelphia

A three story lodging house at 498 North Sixth Street caught fire at 3 AM. Mrs. Robert Emmet, 55, fell from a cornice and was killed. Mrs. Sullivan died from injuries after leaping from a third story window. Mrs. O Leary, on a second floor, was severely cut and bruised. Contents valued at 750 dollars. building damage about 1500 dollars.
