A July afternoon tornado struck Ossining New York along the Hudson River carving a two mile path. Trees were uprooted roofs torn from buildings and prison windows blown in. No fatalities were reported though the Sing Sing complex endured heavy damage and prisoners yelled in fear.
The New York intercollegiate races on the Hudson produced anew records. In the varsity eight Cornell won with 18 53 1 5, Columbia second 15 58, Wisconsin third 19 06 4 5, Georgetown fourth 19 21. In the varsity four Cornell led 11 39 2 5, Pennsylvania 11 45 2 5, Columbia 11 51 3 5. Freshmen race went to Pennsylvania 10 20 1 5, Cornell second 10 23, Columbia third 10 36 1 5, Syracuse fourth 10 44. All four leading shells beat the old marks. several crews also surpassed previous records.
Sir Thomas Lipton refuses to entertain Kenneth M. Clark of the Kariad challenge for series of trial races between the Kariad and the Shamrock Jr. He offers to sail the Shamrock L against the Kariad in five matches at £500 a side. The Royal Ulster Yacht Club informs Clark it must decline the challenge.
In Richmond resolutions in the constitutional convention include a property requirement of $190 for voters and a $3 poll tax. The plan excludes most Nonwhite citizens by blood quantum, allows exceptions for school teachers, and endorses voting by ballot.
A massive blaze in Huntington West Virginia from 11 am to 5 pm caused about 200000 dollars in damage. In Hot Springs Arkansas on July 3 Mrs Fannie Wilson killed herself by morphine. Her husband known as Tex Wilson fled the city and was found dead Tuesday in the suburbs. Investigators say death came from self administered opium poisoning.
