The steamer Bermuda flying the British flag and a steam lighter carrying arms were seized by authorities in New York. About sixty filibusters aboard the Bermuda were captured with Gen Calixto Garcia's son among the prisoners. Nearly two hundred detainees were held at federal buildings after raids.
