Maine Battleship Rebuild Planned With 18 Knot Speed
Philadelphia reports the keel of the new Maine was laid at Cramps Shipbuilding, aiming for launching by February 15 next year and service by the third anniversary of the Havana sinking. The ship, sister to Ohio and Missouri, will cost about 2.585 million dollars and carry four 12 inch rifles and other guns. It is designed for 18 knots speed with a 2,500 ton displacement and 600-man crew.

The three story brick building containing copper smiths, boiler makers, carpenters and a foundry was a total loss with patterns and ship models destroyed.
