Seventy five shot were taken from the child's face and head and one eye destroyed, but the babe lives. Hatton jailed claiming the shooting was accidental.
Luke Palmer, a wealthy resident of Buniino, Ia, was duped Saturday when a so called valuable book acted as bait for a draw. He withdrew 5000 at First National Bank to prove the wager but lost the entire amount. Other brief items note a fatal wreck near Pearsburg Va and a deadly whisky related brawl near Newrodt Ky with several killed or wounded.
Telegrams from Bertie claim Prince Bismarck resists more talks with the American government until after the inauguration. Lord Salisbury supports a longer pause while Von Hatzfeld urges Germany and Britain to proceed with the same aim. Secretary of State informed by Japanese Minister Mutsu of a Tokyo cable announcing the constitution of Japan. The dispatch says the constitution enshrines liberty and that no nation will rejoice more over Japan’s strength and welfare than the United States.
The Groner residence in Bazeporpt Pa burned at 7 p m on Monday night killing two three year old twin children. Mrs Groner left the home to visit a neighbor leaving the children under the care of her eleven year old son who went to the barn for work as the blaze broke out.
An accident near Yaleta Texas buries ex consul Jones his three sons and Wade Witt in sand. Two children and the Witt boy were playing in a sand cave when a collapse traps them. rescue efforts fail and Jones and another man are buried as well. Jones is noted as a former U S consul and editor.

The President signs the bill creating a new executive department grouping the Bureau of Agriculture and geologic and scientific branches. Norman J. Colman, current Commissioner of Agriculture, is nominated as the new Secretary and will lead the cabinet officers in this reform.
