A Cincinnati and Muskingum Valley train derailed near Crooksville when a switch left partly open by a sectionman caused the engine and cars to plunge 15 feet into an embankment. Baggage master Thomas L. Fisher was instantly killed. eight others injured, two of them likely to die, including engineer Alonzo Shrigley and mail agent John Kell. The injured were transported to Zanesville.
