A tramp sexually assaulted an eleven year old girl four miles east of North Manchester as she walked home from school. A crowd gathered at the jail with lynching talk. The suspect was moved to Watash for safety and confessed. A second man and later another man identified by the girl were arrested. the girl remains seriously injured.
In Crawfordsville the Cur rent Events club, a women’s literary group, urged expulsion of two Mormon elders working for converts. Members denounced the Mormons and condemned the group renting meeting space.
Victor February 7. William Graceman found two petrified babies in a deep chamber of one of Monroe counties oldest caves at Victor. Other visitors confirmed the find and Bloomington residents plan to retrieve the babies using rope access. The cave’s first exploration occurred in 1860.
Joseph Cantrall Jr aged twenty one son of a longtime Williamsport resident was found dead near the Wabash railroad track in Attica three miles east of Williamsport. He had ridden a through Wa bash freight from Danville with a companion and leaped from the train near the depot as it passed. He died from bruising and mutilation and the exact cause may never be known though officials speculate a failed attempt to alight before Lafayette.
Proceedings filed in the Johnson circuit court seek a mandate to compel trustees to assemble in the auditor's office and elect a county superintendent of schools as required by law. The action references a prior failed August vote tied by Blue River township trustee absence. Superintendent Hendricks currently holds over.
