John Carpenter, a painter, died Friday morning at the Carnegie company furnace in Braddock. While near the engine house roof about 60 feet high he slipped from a ladder and fell 40 feet onto a rapidly spinning flywheel. His body was mangled with multiple fractures as it struck the wheel and floor.

Rock Island Counsel Withrow Dies of Heart Disease
Thomas J Withrow general counsel for the Rock Island railroad died of heart disease at his home 627 Dearborn avenue Chicago. He came to Chicago in 1872 from Des Moines to become general solicitor and was named general counsel in 1890 serving until his death. He was about 60 years old.
