In Macon Georgia on February 1 a crowd of about seven thousand, mostly Black, gathered to witness an execution postponed due to unrest. The angered crowd drank, white and Black clashes erupted after a drunken Black man struck a white child. Shots fired left one white man dead and three others seriously wounded. several Black individuals also wounded.

Senate motions to pass the bill fail 16 to 0. Senate adjourns with no clear path to agreement, prompting discouragement among New York lawmakers.
Sister Rosa Gertrude also known as Amy Fowler a Dominican nun aged 33 from England traveled from Liverpool aboard the steamer Hothnia bound for Molokai in the South Pacific to devote her life to caring for lepers. She was drawn to the work through Father Damién whose sacrifice aided the lepers.
Prowa February 1. John J. Farris who murdered Stephen McCeehee in April 1887 has been sentenced to twenty five years in the penitentiary. This was his third trial for the crime following two prior trials that ended differently. The first trial issued a hanging sentence but was reversed by the Supreme Court. The second trial ended with a hung jury.
The Pennsylvania Railroad will place stenographers and type-writers on its limited train between New York and Pittsburgh to take dictated correspondence, transcribe it, and dispatch from the train. In Kanee case, John P. Kanee, before Judge Clifford, with attorney, pleaded ten days of proceedings.
