Third Man Lynched in Boonville Mob Executes Black Suspect
Boonville Indiana December 18 a mob of about 100 men from Rockport lynched John Rolla the third colored man implicated in the Hollie Simons murder. He was dragged from a jail cell and hanged from a tree in the courthouse yard after a silent insistence by the mob. Sheriff in charge attempted to move him but failed. Governor Mount ordered Evansville militia then countermanded order upon learning of the lynching.
