Len Ennis and John Hill hunted with a party on the Reuben Hicks when a snag capsized the boat six miles down the river. Tents stoves and supplies were lost. Ennis lost his breech loader and 200 cartridges. The crew reached shore safely and returned home by rail from Rockford.
A fire alarm near noon drew attention to 1316 Chestnut Street where Oscar Lacy lived. The fire started in a clothes press and burned near the transom but caused minimal damage, likely from a match in Mr. Lacy’s pocket. No insurance.
The trousers with valuables were found on Mr. Heckman's porch after 12 o clock last night. Mike Sohn the butcher also robbed of about $80 with two pocketbooks that later contained no money. Locals and police suspect home talent, no burglars yet identified.
