Treasury reports slight November debt decrease and cash shifts

The November 29 1899 debt stood at 1 140 091 31 million with a month decline of 6 537 750. Bond purchases reduced bonded debt by about 9 712 51 and cash on hand dropped 3 175 100 used for bond buys. Net cash balance shows 256 216 450 after liabilities.

Cancellation of Stamps Regs Revised by Internal Revenue

The commissioner of internal revenue issued a circular amending rules on canceling documentary and proprietary stamps. For stamps of ten cents or more, affixed to taxes, the user must write or stamp initials and date and mutilate the stamp by three parallel cuts lengthwise. If already cancelled by existing methods, the new mutilation is not required. Effective December 13.

Flour and grain receipts at BurFrao port plunge this year

At BurFrao New York December 2 receipts of flour and grain by lake show a large drop from last year. From navigation start to November 30 flour receipts totaled 8 403 580 barrels a decrease of 1 337 000 barrels compared with the prior period.

Grain receipts drop from last year by large margin

A Fond du Lac Sentinel report notes 135,548,979 bushels of grain received this year versus 193,773,965 last year, a decrease exceeding 58,000,000 bushels. In Milwaukee a Sentinal dispatch also states James Lonergan was found guilty of first degree murder in the November 18, 1898 killing of Policeman William Prinslow. James Morrison was acquitted as an alleged accomplice.

Dr Franklin P Gillaspy of Glenns Valley was sentenced to three years at hard labor in the Columbus penitentiary and fined 100 dollars and costs for counterfeiting.
