Nelsonville, Ohio reports 1260 miners with nothing to eat and 100 sick in immediate area. Local charity exhausted and Gardners cut off aid as relief committees struggle. Only $25 received this week. citizens seek outside relief by tomorrow to avert dire consequences.
Dorots Pa Aug 29 General Manager Robinson issued a circular to Rochester and London miners announcing a 40 cent net ton advance and outlining the company stance. He notes miners had voted to strike and says he will not communicate with Dubois further while urging return to work. The circular cites Pittsburg miners paid 54 cents for sued coal, with 40 cents here tied to proportional scales.
Hazleron August 29. Strike meetings raised fears of a general shut down as foreigners dominate mining and refuse to open Van Wickle’s collieries. Lehigh and Wilkesbarre workers threaten another walkout without timely wage and investigation assurances. Violence warning issued. A man named Sprickerhoff was found dead under a wagon bridge near Dillsboro after going missing while paying a building and loan assessment. Authorities suspect foul play though no motive is known. The article notes his father was a B. C. & W. section boss.

Korewa Aug 29 Last night a cattle train on the Toledo St. Louis and Kansas City line caught fire from a hot box at Ruzésiaville. The Texan steers from Kansas City to Buffalo were driven into the village as flames spread damaging three cars and causing livestock losses. Passenger trains were delayed by the fire.
Christopher Slack now in prison for burglary confesses that about two years ago he and roughly six others waylaid peddler John Wiseman on a road, killed him for his money and valuables totaling 85 dollars, burned flesh from the bones, and buried the body. He acted as a state’s witness to avoid hanging. Officers pursue other named collaborators up the river.
